In this episode, we chat with Kelvin Ngow from Coffex Coffee (M) Sdn Bhd. As the current president of the Malaysia Specialty Coffee Association and the second vice president of the ASEAN Coffee Federation, Kelvin has been instrumental in advancing the specialty coffee scene in Malaysia. His company has brought renowned coffee machine brands like Slayer Espresso, Tempesta, Malhkonig, and Kees Van Der Westen to the market. We’re looking forward to discussing his new project, Mono Origine, which focuses on ethically sourcing coffee beans. This initiative not only aims to help micro roasters reduce costs but also supports farmers in earning better incomes and raises awareness about regenerative farming practices.
In this episode, I sit down with my coffee mentors, Natt and Art, who I've known since 2022. Both are Q-Graders in Arabica and Robusta and certified trainers with the Specialty Coffee Association. They come from Espresso Academic Thailand in Bangkok and share a deep passion for coffee and great hospitality.
We’ll hear about Natt’s unique journey as he balances his career as a commercial pilot while also pursuing his passion for coffee education. This trip, they’re in town to explore Coffee Week at One Utama and work on a new partnership with the Barista Experience Academy. Join us as we chat about their experiences and the exciting future of coffee education!

*Common Question:* "Why aren’t you opening a café since you love coffee so much?"
Running a café and having a passion for coffee are two different journeys. My true passion lies in teaching others about coffee and honing my craft, rather than managing a retail space and waiting for customers to come through the door.
It's important to remember that loving something—whether it's cooking or coffee—doesn’t mean you have to turn it into a business. You can fully enjoy these passions at home, whether through cooking or perfecting your skills as a home barista.
In Episode 41, we explore various topics, including the importance of location, reasons for operating a café, and whether the quality of your brews matters to customers.
